About the Campaign
UC Health is the fourth largest healthcare provider in California, and it’s the training ground for half of the state’s medical students and residents. As a public entity, the University of California is specifically required by the California Constitution to be free of religious influence. In 2019, the All Care Everywhere campaign and our partners successfully halted an extensive deal between UC San Francisco and Dignity Health, a Catholic hospital chain, that would have imposed religious restrictions on UC-provided care.
But UC has current contracts with Catholic hospitals that impose religion on UC health care, tying the hands of UC clinicians and prohibiting them from providing evidence-based care to patients. These contracts threaten patient health and undermine UC’s values. We urge UC to draw a bright line prohibiting religious restrictions on providers, students, or patients and to take a stand on non-discrimination.
